The benefits of taking your RYA course online vs. classroom study.
You’re on the path to getting trained up! You’ve made an excellent decision in seeking professional training – it’s not uncommon for people to underestimate how much there is to know about the sea, boats, weather and safety, and so sadly, a lot of folk get caught out sooner or later and end up in either some scary scenarios, needing to be rescued or needing to phone their boat insurance! The problem is – they don’t know what they don’t know until it’s too late.
The next question is: Why do we need to decide between online and classroom? Aren’t we learning to drive a boat? Well, yes. You will need practical lessons on a boat, but a bit like taking your driving test, there is theory to learn too. Learning to navigate, learning about the weather, tidal heights and tidal streams all require quite some concentration and realistically, a flat surface and a room that’s not rolling around!
Getting out on the water for the first time can be a daunting task, navigating through the range of sailing courses and qualifications can be overwhelming. In this blog, we are going to explain the different yachting schemes available around the world (ASA, RYA etc), the qualifications they can offer, and discover the best path for you.
This applies to anyone wanting to sail or motor any yacht under 500 tonnes, most yachts are only around 10 tonnes!
So, it’s your first time going yachting and you want to learn to sail. Whether you are stepping foot on a motor-cruiser or sailing vessel, the basics of boat etiquette are largely the same. We’ve compiled a short guide on how to prepare for your first sailing trip!
So, for some reason or another, you’ve been inspired to learn to sail. Perhaps it was watching the Olympics, the America’s cup, or seeing a boat show take place. Maybe your friends won’t shut up about it and actually they’ve convinced you to give it a try. Now you’re wondering, how to start sailing? How do I find a place that does sailing for beginners.

It may seem impossible at first – boats are expensive, so who’s just going to let you, a total novice, jump on board and take the helm?! And how do I learn to sail near me? But, don’t worry, it’s actually MUCH easier than you might think to start sailing.
We’ll talk you through several options, including a few that could get you on board for a taster, for FREE.
